Margaret Hale’s press conference took place in a luxury hotel ballroom.

Hundreds of journalists gathered beneath crystal chandeliers while cameras recorded the proceedings. Margaret stood behind a podium with her legal team beside her.

She appeared composed and confident.

“My family has been subjected to a campaign of harassment,” she began. “False allegations have been circulated about my professional conduct and my relationship with my daughter.”

She described Emily as a woman motivated by resentment and financial gain.

She denied knowing that Eleanor Carter had remained alive.

She also claimed that the documents presented by Emily had been manipulated.

Then she invited Victoria to join her onstage.

Victoria entered wearing a dark blue suit.

Margaret smiled.

“Victoria has agreed to clarify several misunderstandings.”

But Victoria did not stand beside her mother.

She walked to a separate microphone.

“I have spent most of my life believing that the people who raised me always told me the truth,” she began.

Margaret’s smile faded.

“Victoria, please.”

Victoria continued.

“I recently learned that my biological mother is Eleanor Carter. I also discovered that my identity was concealed in documents connected to a financial investigation twelve years ago.”

The journalists began shouting questions.

Victoria raised her hand.

“I am not here to accuse anyone without evidence. I am here to confirm that the records exist and that I will cooperate with an independent investigation.”

Margaret moved toward her.

“You’re confused. You don’t understand the implications of what you’re saying.”

Victoria turned toward her.

“I understand that you lied to me.”

A wave of murmurs spread through the room.

“My mother told me that my father had abandoned us. She told me Eleanor Carter was dead. She told me that the Carter family had ruined our lives.”

Victoria paused.
