A glimpse of the story
The rain had been falling over Beverly Hills for nearly two hours when a black limousine stopped outside the magnificent Whitmore estate.
Behind its tall iron gates stood one of the most expensive private residences in California. Crystal chandeliers illuminated enormous windows, marble staircases curved toward the second floor, and carefully dressed guests filled the grand ballroom for a celebration that had cost more than most people would earn in a lifetime.
Tonight, Richard Whitmore, the seventy-year-old founder of Whitmore Global Holdings, was announcing his successor.
Everyone expected his only son, Alexander Whitmore, to inherit the empire.
Almost everyone.
Inside the ballroom, Alexander stood beneath a golden chandelier in a perfectly tailored black suit. At thirty-four, he had the confidence of a man who had never been told no. His company owned luxury hotels, commercial properties, and investment firms across several countries.
Beside him stood his fiancée, Victoria Hale, a celebrated socialite whose family had spent decades building connections with America's wealthiest households.
