Alexander examined the account statements.
Several transfers matched the entries in the ledger from Thomas’s estate.
But one detail remained unexplained.
A final transfer of $12 million had been made after Daniel’s death.
The beneficiary was a company owned by an offshore trust.
Eleanor pointed to the signature authorizing the payment.
“That signature was forged.”
Alexander studied it.
The initials were R.W.
His father’s initials.
But Eleanor shook her head.
“Richard told me he never approved that transfer. Someone copied his signature to make it appear that he had.”
“Who had access to his documents?”
Eleanor looked toward the window.
“Jonathan Pierce.”
A car engine sounded outside.
They all turned.
A black sedan had stopped at the end of the driveway.
A man stepped out and walked toward the cottage.
